The singer is crouching in the elevator, smiling at the camera through the mirror. Her dog Kiwi stands in front of her and looks at her in amazement. The picture shows how well she is after the love-out. Her fans see that too. “You look happier now,” commented a follower on the snapshot. “It’s nice that you can laugh,” writes another follower.

Lena Meyer-Landrut: I think I can empathize in the sense that I know how a casting show is going. How you feel when you are on stage for the first time. But I believe that everyone else also has a good sense of how to deal with the kids and talents.

You once said that there is always a bit of luck when you win a talent show. Is that also the case with “The Voice Kids”?

It is lucky in that you should be in the right place at the right time. “The Voice Kids” is all about the voice. It is then also luck who your coach is. There are so many incredibly great voices that it really is a very emotional topic. Of course, we can’t turn around for everyone and that is often decided by the emotion. There is always a certain magic involved.

The words ESC 2010 and “Satellite” are often used in connection with your name. Does it annoy you, in some ways, still being reduced to this one gig, even though you’ve done a lot different since then?

No, that doesn’t annoy me at all. I am totally grateful for that. If I hadn’t been at the ESC, I wouldn’t be here today. If you don’t appreciate that, something goes wrong. It’s an absolute part of me, that’s great.

Is it actually important to you in general to be prominent?

No. I don’t think I would feel bad if I were no longer a public figure. I think I would feel bad if I stopped doing the job I do. I’m just incredibly grateful for the options I have and what I can experience every day. I think I would be sad. Celebrity itself is not my goal and not my motivation.

You recently talked about the negative sides of celebrities – especially on the Internet. Hate comments and insults are the order of the day. What does that do to you?

I don’t think that just has something to do with celebrities. Hate comments and negativity affect everyone in their own way. Whether it’s in the job, whether it’s private or in the village community – everyone has their own problems and construction sites. That is not to be underestimated.

Let’s stay with the network: You have your own profile on Instagram. Are you putting pressure on the ideals of beauty that are on display there?

Nobody can absolve themselves of this completely. I think I can do this pretty well. I am an esthete, I like beautiful things and Instagram is simply an aesthetic portal. With art, with beautiful pictures, beautiful colors and shapes. In other words, the emphasis is not too much on perfection, but on aesthetics. Still, I’m a huge fan of keeping everything as real as possible.

How do you do it?

I think the Instagram feed is very different from the Instagram story. In an Instagram story, I am often not made up at all or even completely without make-up and simply take the community with me and tell things from my life. Mostly completely spontaneously from the moment.

With someone like you, it is often like this: If you don’t show natural photos, it means you’re made up. Show some, worst case haters say you look ugly.

First of all, it’s good that I don’t find myself ugly without makeup. So it affects me very little. And secondly, I think that if you have made friends with the fact that from a certain size of followers you always get headwinds, it is even healthy. How terrible would it be if we all had the same opinion? Of course there is a difference between opinion, criticism, hatred and bad things.

“The Voice Kids” runs tonight at 8:15 pm on Sat.1.
